Kiwanis Community Projects
Named in honor of our longest serving member, the Abe Zakem House is a 22-unit affordable housing project located on Water Street in Charlottetown. This project was the first multi-unit residential rental project to be developed under the Canada-Prince Edward Island Affordable Housing Agreement signed in May 2004.
Through a community needs assessment, the Club initially envisioned providing some means of assistance to senior citizens to allow them to remain in their neighbourhoods for a longer period, at a reasonable cost. That concept later expanded to include provision of assistance to other citizens in the community in need of affordable housing. This new vision, coupled with the desire to support the revitalization of downtown Charlottetown, culminated in the Kiwanis Club’s Affordable Housing Project.
The Kiwanis Club of Charlottetown sold the Abe Zakem House to the Canadian Mental Health Assocication and still meeting the needs of Islanders today. The $1.5 million facility opened in the Fall of 2004.
The Kiwanis Club supports the Air Cadets program with the goal of helping PEI youth meet new people and make new friends while learning to become more self reliant and better citizens. To learn more about the 201 Wing visit: https://wingpei.com/201-wing-charlottetown/

Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. The Kiwanis Club of Charlottetown is a proud sponsor of the Key Club at Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown.
